Keyword cannibalization checker
Paste query and page rows from Google Search Console and see which queries have more than one URL competing, how impressions are split, and which cases are probably healthy.
Your data stays in this browser tab. Nothing you paste is uploaded.
How to use the keyword cannibalization checker
- In Search Console, open Performance → Search results and choose a date range (the last 3 months works well).
- Export data that includes both the query and the page for each row. The Search Console API, the Looker Studio connector and the bulk data export all provide query and page together; the standard interface export lists them on separate tabs.
- Paste the rows below, including the header row. Columns named Query, Page, Clicks, Impressions and Position are recognised in any order.
- Optionally enter your brand name so brand queries are treated as normal.
Examples
A likely conflict
“waterproof hiking boots” shows a guide at position 11 with 54% of impressions and a category page at position 13 with 46%. Neither ranks well and they split the demand: review which page should own the query.
A healthy case
“acme outdoors” shows the homepage at position 1 and the about page at position 3. That is a brand query with two strong results. Leave it alone.
Understanding the results
- Likely conflict
- Impressions are split fairly evenly and the lead URL ranks outside the top six. Worth investigating first.
- Possible overlap
- A second URL takes a meaningful share. Check whether both pages are intended to serve the query.
- Probably healthy
- Both URLs rank strongly, or it is a brand query. Multiple rankings are fine here.
- Score
- 0–100, from how evenly impressions are split, how much demand the query has and whether the lead URL ranks weakly.
Frequently asked questions
- Is my Search Console data uploaded?
- No. The analysis runs in your browser. Nothing you paste is sent to our servers.
- Why can't it detect URL switching?
- Switching is when Google alternates between URLs from day to day. A single export has no daily history, so it cannot show that. Continuous monitoring in Rankwell Insights adds the daily view.
- How many rows can I paste?
- Up to 50,000 rows. Queries need at least 50 impressions in total to be reported; you can change that.
- Does two URLs for a query mean I should merge them?
- Not by itself. Review search intent first, then consider differentiating the pages or adjusting internal links. Consolidate only when the overlap is persistent and neither page performs.
